In its first editions, the “Dakar Classic” category attracted vehicles from before the year 2000, whose drivers were able to rediscover the feeling of being rally-raid pioneers on the Saudi tracks. Images of VW Beetle, Peugeot 205 T16, Porsche 911 and Sunhill buggies just stole the show on TV and on social networks. The “back to the future” spirit makes the Dakar classic THE place to be.
In its superb “Feu Vert” livery, our Mercedes G-Class is an entry of choice for Rally-Raid events. This original chassis took the start of the Paris Dakar in 1985 with Robert LEGRAND and Jean-marie SOUNILLAC at the wheel. The Paris–Algiers–Dakar Rally in 1985 covered some 12,000 kilometres through France, Algeria, Niger, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Mali and Mauritania to Senegal.
Our Mercedes was delivered new in France on November 29th, 1982. This G-Class was then purchased by the crew for its fifth participation in the event. Equipped with a powerfull V8 and automatic 4 speed gearbox, this G 280 GE “n°424” became a real weapon of choice.
Meticulously inspected by our experts, our Mercedes Dakar is complete but requires full restoration. On the cosmetic side, this “barn find” will benefit a complete detailing in our workshops in order to be, possibly, exhibited in a showroom before being restored by a specialist.
