Spotted for sale in Chicago is a 1987 Mercedes G-Class cabriolet G Wagon for $49,500
It is a 240GD Cabrio which I purchased in Europe personally and shipped to the U.S. It is a 2.4 Diesel with a 4 speed manual, with locking differentials. Comfortably cruises at 65-70mph on the highway. It has been very reliable and hasn’t skipped a beat, I have personally driven it 1,000 miles over a 2 day period before with zero issues. I mostly use it for driving around town with the roof rolled up. The car was refurbished in Europe spring 2019 and presents well. See pictures. The vehicle currently has 35,000 MI / 56,000 KM on it which I believe to be original as it was a military vehicle in the dutch army for the majority of its life. These vehicles are generally not driven regularly and are always serviced yearly, regardless of use, as that is their protocol.
Some information on the refurbishment as follows: Body and frame was stripped and repainted, all other metal pieces (top frame, bumpers, door hinges, lamp covers, seat rails, tool box in rear, fuel canister etc.) sand blasted and powder-coated. New roof, new lights, Momo steering wheel, new seat belts, new upholstery (water proof), new seals, bluetooth stereo with 4 speakers, wheels were sand blasted and powder coated to match body paint (Pueblo beige – original Mercedes color) with 5 brand new Goodyear tires. Engine, brakes, axles and suspension were fully serviced. New Sachs shocks all around, springs, new steering shock, calipers, rotors etc. New bumpers.
