GREAT Winter project! 1970 Datsun 240z Series I project car. Manufacture date is 01/70, #1115; matches VIN stamp on firewall and VIN plates. Original engine, matches engine number on VIN plate.

Car was purchased by my mom in 1979 and was driven by her and my brother until 1992. Since then it has been in storage in our barn. During those 30 years I think I started it three times; the last time being this Summer and several times since. 150k original miles. It’s a good restoration project but not for me at this time.

It starts fairly easily and drives fine; nicely tight steering, stiff suspension, good brakes.

Rust: the door ‘corners’ are pretty good; one has a small hole. The floorboards have some rust but not too bad ($400/set at resurrectedclassics ). The spare wheel well has a 3″x3″ rust through; should be replaced ($400). The area where the rear hatch closes has some rust. The area around the gas filler is rusted/damaged/bondo-ed and needs work. Battery tray is good.

It was partially disassembled by my brother in 1991-ish so there are a couple boxes of parts with several duplicate items.

What do you think?
